Everybody wants beautiful pearly whites but as you age there are several factors that can dim the shine of your chompers. If you are a smoker, drink sugary soda or haven’t been diligent with your home care your teeth might become yellow or discolored.H
But have no fear! There are multiple solutions to return your teeth back to their former luster and shine. Here are your options for teeth whitening!
In-Office Treatment
The most effective and quickest way to whiten your smile is to come into the office. The procedure only lasts a couple hours and the results are immediate. Teeth are first polished with pumice then the mouth is stuffed with gauze to keep the teeth dry during the bleaching procedure.
The teeth are then coated with a whitening solution, typically composed of hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. Finally, a curing light or laser heats the solution to whiten the teeth. The procedure shouldn’t take more than two hours.
Teeth Whitening Trays and Gels
This home whitening method does not produce the immediate results of an in-office bleaching but they are quite effective over time. These clear trays are typically worn for a couple hours a day or while the patient sleeps.
It typically takes a couple of weeks for marked improvements.
Whitening Strips
The most popular form of tooth whitening is strips. These can be purchased in any pharmacy or drug store. They are fairly inexpensive and most of them work quite well! They are basically thin transparent strips coated with peroxide applied directly to the teeth.
These typically take one to two months to produce results.
